REI AOO Ballet Rei Aoo, trained under Emiko Kawazoe and instructor/mistress at age twelve, performed as a soloist in some of the most major ballet productions such as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadere, Giselle, Don Quixote and Nutcracker with the Kawazoe Ballet in Fukuoka, Japan. She also joined the Atorie Kikaku Theatre Company to expand her performing skills and performed more than 10 original musicals as a leading actress in the company. After moving to United States in 1985, as a vehicle for her passion to tell stories in movement, she formed the Japanese acting group, the precursor to Rei Aoo’s Dance Planet, known as a ballet based jazz contemporary dance company since its inception in 2000. As an Artistic Director of Rei Aoo’s Dance Planet, Rei Aoo’s works appeared at many of the most recognized venues such as the Key Club, the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, James P. Doolittle Theatre, the Kodak Theatre, the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre, the Ivar Theatre, the Luckman Fine Arts Complex, the Thousand Oaks Civic Auditorium, California state University, Northridge, California State University, Long Beach, and the El Portal Center for the Arts, as well as the Madrid Theatre, the Glendale Community College Auditorium and Highways Performance Space for the company’s full concerts. In 2004, Rei Aoo recreated the US premiere Origins in collaboration with the music ensemble Satori Daiko as a part of the Ford Amphitheatre Summer Season 2004, which was recognized by the DRC with Lester Horton Awards for Small Ensemble Performance and Original Music. The Beverly Hills Outlook cited RADP as Dance Company of the Year 2004, and Rei Aoo personally as one of the year’s top five female dancers. Rei Aoo also has been invited as a guest artist all over Japan.
